This course was focused on how hardiness can be applied in organizations and life which ended with a climb of Mt. Adams. Communication and collaboration were essential to our success on the mountain, especially in moments that demanded resilience. Reading Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning offered profound insight into surviving adversity, which helped me frame my own understanding of resilience in extreme conditions.
My team on the mountain operated without a designated leader, instead embracing shared responsibility and prioritizing clear communication. When the time came to summit, I made the difficult decision to descend alongside a teammate rather than continue to the top. As an endurance athlete, this choice challenged my ego and personal expectations. Yet, I came to understand that supporting others at the base, being present and ready to serve, held far greater value than a photo from the peak. Ultimately, it reminded me that true leadership often means choosing service over ego. My artifact from this course is my Celebration of Life letter that was inspired from reading Man’s Search for Meaning.
